It is our primordial human right to be loved, to feel wanted and satisfied. It doesn’t end with the age of Christ or with menopause but continues until the end of our lives. Unfortunately, it is sometimes overlooked because of prejudices like “It’s for the young …” or “The body of a mother can never be the same again …” Without realizing that an intimacy problem may be a medical indication that, like other chronological aging, is curable and controllable.
Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome (VRS) is both physical and psychological problem for women and their partners. Both partners experience reduced sensation during sexual intercourse as a result of loosening of the vaginal canal. The condition most often occurs during menopause as a result of hormonal changes leading to reduced elasticity of the muscles in the vagina. It can also occur as a consequence of natural birth, where the vaginal canal has been subjected to excessive stress as well as hysterectomy or pelvic floor surgery. It is not uncommon for women who have VRS to suffer from various stages of incontinence. With age, the syndrome can also lead to genital prolapse disease. Currently, medicine offers the following methods for treating VRS: regular Kegel exercises; electromagnetic stimulation; surgical procedures; laser therapy – IntimaLase®.
IntimaLase® is a unique, non-invasive laser therapy with the Er:YAG laser by Fotona. It provides controlled photothermal heating of the vaginal canal, which increases the tightness and elasticity of the connective tissue. The procedure is also suitable for younger women, including those who have not given birth [1]. It increases the satisfaction and quality of sexual intercourse – such as feeling, lubrication in the vagina and EGO (external genital organs). With IntimaLase®, there is no risk of burns and the surrounding organs are not affected. Aside from being safe, it is also proven effective. Studies done to date show, that over 95% of patients treated with IntimaLase® experience increased pleasure during sexual intercourse. When following its effectiveness over a period of up to 3 years [2], the average duration of the effect was 16 months and, due to satisfaction, 83.33% of the participants showed interest in subsequent intervention.
Compared to other treatment methods for Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome (VRS), the procedure:
- Provides effective results with satisfactory longevity in over 95% of patients.
- It’s a non-invasive method (i.e., non-operative) in which the patient can leave immediately after its completion.
- Does not involve any risk of scarring, nerve damage or decreased sensitivity, as opposed to surgical interventions.
At least 2 treatments are recommended for the procedure to be effective and the final number of treatments is based on distinct cases and indicators.
